Is the Government Complicit of Persecutions Against Christians in Nigeria? Statement by Grateful Nation Nigeria

We are shocked and dismayed by President Bola Tinubu’s denial of the egregious persecution of Christians in Nigeria. The facts are stark and undeniable: thousands of Christians have been killed, and countless churches have been destroyed or attacked by extremist groups. This is not a matter of terrorism alone, but a systematic campaign of violence and intimidation against a specific faith group.

The international community has taken notice of this crisis. US President Donald Trump has designated Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern due to severe violations of religious freedom. US lawmakers like Riley Moore have accused President Tinubu’s administration of complicity in these atrocities, citing “shameful silence” in the face of overwhelming evidence

We condemn President Tinubu’s government for downplaying the severity of these attacks and refusing to acknowledge the genocide against Christians. This denial is not only morally reprehensible but also emboldens the perpetrators. By failing to protect its citizens, the government is complicit in their suffering.

We demand that President Tinubu’s government:

– Acknowledge the reality of the persecution against Christians and take immediate action to protect vulnerable communities
– Hold perpetrators accountable for their crimes, regardless of their affiliations
– Prioritize the safety and security of all citizens, particularly Christians and other minority groups

Consequences of Inaction
The consequences of protecting Islamists and Fulani killers will be severe. Nigeria risks:
– International isolation: The country’s reputation as a champion of human rights and religious freedom will be irreparably damaged.
– Economic sanctions: Designation as a Country of Particular Concern may lead to sanctions and restrictions on aid.
– *Escalating violence : Failure to address the root causes of violence will lead to further bloodshed and instability.

We Stand in Solidarity
We stand in solidarity with our Christian brothers and sisters who are facing unimaginable suffering. We urge all Nigerians to join us in demanding action from our government to protect the lives and rights of all citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity. The time for denial and inaction is over; the time for accountability and justice is now.
